About the print finish

Image size; the full photograph and original proportions are preserved. The white paper border adds 2 cm on every side; the frame surrounds it. A paper border is not a passe-partout. Finishes and prices are provisional; frames are an illustration. Your print is made to order and shipped directly to your delivery address. Shipping is shown in the cart.

WhiteWall also offers a real passe-partout with anti-reflective Artglass AR museum glass. That finish is available on request and is separate from this glass-free selection. Other white frames include white maple (Basel 15/31 mm and wooden ArtBox) and Hamburg 20 mm in matt white or white maple.

60 × 90 cm is comparable to A1, but slightly taller. A1 measures 59.4 × 84.1 cm.

Print orders are available in the test shop. Prices and finishes shown are provisional.

About the photograph

A pattern made by the birds themselves.

I photographed these guillemots on Hornøya, Norway, in March 2025. The birds fill the frame. Near and far, the same shapes recur, yet no two birds occupy quite the same space.

At first glance, the photograph recalls an Escher drawing. The rhythm comes from the birds themselves. Black and white brings out their wings, the spaces between them and the different distances. You can take in the whole pattern, or let your eye settle on a different bird each time.

The photograph in print

As a portrait print, Patterns retains that dense rhythm. From a distance you see the pattern; up close, the individual birds emerge.
