To create this "aerial" viewpoint without disturbing the insect, I held grass blades upside-down above it and then rotated the final image 180 degrees. This creative composition highlights the insect’s impressive sensory organs, where the seven "leaves" of the antennae are fanned out to detect female pheromones. On our trip to Grand Teton, we were waiting at a spot known for sightings of bighorn sheep when we suddenly heard the distant howls of coyotes. We searched for a while, scanning the landscape, and then, off to our left, we spotted a coyote standing right on the ridge of the mountain. I quickly aimed my camera, and, luckily, the coyote howled once more, giving me the perfect moment to capture this shot. It was truly a stroke of luck,a moment of pure joy! This photograph, titled “Cry of the Coyote,” captures that exact scene: a lone coyote standing proudly on a snow-covered ridge, silhouetted against the winter sky. Its head is tilted back in a haunting howl, with the sound echoing through the cold, still air.
